I have a new best friend…..my Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker! If you love homemade ice cream but don’t love all the mess and hassle that goes along with it, this is for you!
You can make 2 quarts of delicious ice cream in your kitchen in as little as 30 minutes. When my sister Kathy was visiting we decided to make strawberry ice cream.
We mixed up the ingredients according to Papa Anthony’s homemade ice cream recipe (recipe below).
Poured the mix into the bowl that we had frozen for 24 hours, placed the bowl in the Cuisinart and let it freeze the ice cream for approximately 30 minutes.
Delicious! Here is the recipe. Remember that most ice cream recipes are for a 4-quart freezer as is the recipe below. You can either ½ the recipe and make 2 quarts or do like I do, make the full recipe and save ½ the mix to freeze another day.
Homemade Ice Cream
4 eggs
1 cup whipping cream
1/3 cup sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon almond extract
2 Tablespoons vanilla
2 cans condensed milk
6 cups 2% milk
Combine eggs, cream, sugar, salt, almond extract, and vanilla in bowl and mix thoroughly with a mixer. Add condensed milk and stir well. Add dairy milk. Add flavor ingredients if you wish.
Note – If you choose to use whole milk instead of 2% milk, substitute half n half for the whipping cream.
To add flavor ingredients – If you want the flavor such as strawberries or chocolate to blend smoothly into the ice cream, puree the ingredients together and add to the mixture before you freeze. If you want your flavor ingredients to be in chunks, add them the last 5 minutes of processing.
I have made strawberry chocolate chip, banana, strawberry banana, chocolate, chocolate banana, chocolate chip, oreo and butterfinger ice cream. They are all delicious. Give it a try, and I hope you love it as much as I do.
